The addition of Small to the engineering department is a coup for the first year team, and gives the Dodo Racing entry both a second-generation driver and race engineer. A former Formula Ford racer himself, Small is following in the footsteps of father Les, who built and engineered many a successful car, including the 1986 Bathurst winner of Allan Grice.
"To secure someone of the calibre of James to engineer our Dodo Commodore is a real coup for our team," Perkins confirmed, "I've known James for a long time as we have both grown up around racing and come up through the ranks in karting and Formula Ford. I'm really looking forward to working with him and the entire Dodo crew in Queensland. It's our final event before the endurance races, so we're really keen to have a good round and get geared up for the important Phillip Island and Bathurst races.
"I really enjoy the Queensland track - I know it's not every driver's favourite, but I think it's a challenging layout in many ways and I've run well there in the past. I'm especially looking forward to this weekend's event and, hopefully, we can get our best result yet for everyone at Dodo, Accu-chek, Corporate Security Solutions and all of our great sponsors."
Clinton Stephen, GM of Corporate Security Solutions, said that the relationship with Kelly Racing was an important part of launching the company's newest brand.
"We are very pleased to have partnered with Kelly Racing to assist us in launching our new brand, Corporate Security Solutions," he said, "Kelly Racing is an extremely professional outfit and something we see as a great representation of our business."
