Lecuona to miss final day of Jerez test after sustaining left-hand injury
Iker Lecuona will miss today’s final day of his first WorldSBK test with Honda after sustaining a fractured little finger at Jerez.
Lecuona, who was midway through the second of three days testing, suffered a fall at turn 12 which led to the left-hand injury.
Although a medical check-up by doctors’ showed no ‘serious injuries’ the ex-MotoGP rider and Team HRC elected to switch their focus towards the first test of 2022.
Lecuona’s team-mate Xavi Vierge has also been in action and will continue testing during the third and final day.
An official statement from Team HRC said: "For Iker Lecuona the first World Superbike test with Team HRC at the Jerez de la Frontera track in Spain came to an end midway through the second of three days, following a very satisfying opening day of intense work during which the riders began to get a feel for both their CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE and the category.
"After hitting his left hand in a fall at turn 12, the last right-hand corner, Iker was taken to the medical centre and then Jerez hospital for a thorough check-up.
"Tests have excluded any serious injuries, but a fracture to the little finger on his left hand means that the Spanish rider will sit out tomorrow’s final day of testing which will go ahead as planned with team-mate Xavi Vierge."
The three-day test at Jerez has also seen BMW and Kawasaki get their first on-track running since last month’s season finale in Mandalika, Indonesia.
But unlike BMW who have Loris Baz and Eugene Laverty in action alongside factory riders Scott Redding and Michael Van Der Mark, Honda and Kawasaki have only been in attendance with their factory teams.
