Gonzalez was lying in eighth during the closing seconds but replaced WorldSSP debutant Filippo Fuligni at the top, as the Italian suffered a crash at turn ten moments before the flag dropped.

Niki Tuuli also suffered a crash but this time at turn 13 as the Finn was unable to stay aboard his MV Agusta whilst going through the gravel.
