Federico Caricasulo has topped Friday practice at Donington Park but under one-tenth of a second splits to top three with fellow GRT Yamaha rider Lucas Mahias in second and NRT Yamaha’s Jules Cluzel in third.
With the British circuit drying throughout the afternoon session from early morning rain, lap times duly tumbled throughout FP2 which saw the Italian GRT Yamaha rider timed his late run to perfection to take top spot with a 1m 31.587s just 0.019s quicker than teammate Mahias’s best effort while Cluzel, who had led for the majority of the session, narrowly missed out in third place just 0.028s off of Caricasulo.
Sandro Cortese was another set to challenge the front-runners but during his final lap he ran on at the Fogarty Esses to see his lap time ruined. The Kallio Racing Yamaha rider duly ended FP2 fourth but over three-tenths of a second off of the top three.
Randy Krummenacher ensured it was an all-Yamaha top five for Bardahl Evan Bros ahead of MV Agusta duo Raffaele De Rosa and Ayrton Badovini.
CIA Landlords Insurance Honda’s Andrew Irwin stormed into his maiden Superpole 2 session but finishing Friday practice eighth fastest overall at his home round while Sheridan Morias secured ninth place for Puccetti Kawasaki who is stepping in for the retired Kenan Sofuoglu.
Luke Stapleford rounded out the top ten for Profile Racing Triumph to completed the top 10 who automatically progress into Superpole 2.
