Randy Krummenacher starts on pole position for round five of the 2019 World Supersport Championship at Imola after defeating team-mate and title rival Federico Caricasulo in qualifying.
Back-to-back poles for the Swiss rider – who currently leads the WorldSSP standings by 17 points – Krummenacher shrugged off an indifferent weekend so far to get the better of practice pace setter Caricasulo on the sister Bardahl Evan Bros. Yamaha when it mattered.
Four tenths quicker than his team-mate, the pair were nonetheless fortunate not to be beaten to pole by Jules Cluzel, who high-sided on a quick lap within metres of the chequered flag. Nonetheless, the Frenchman will start on the front row in third.
Fresh from his maiden career WorldSSP podium at Assen, Thomas Gradinger gets underway in fourth place, with Hikari Okubo the best-placed non-Yamaha rider aboard the Puccetti Kawasaki in fifth.
MV Agusta’s Raffaele De Rosa starts in sixth from 2017 WorldSSP champion Lucas Mahias, while experienced Italians Ayrton Badovini and Massimo Roccoli, together with Luca Ottaviani complete the top ten starting positions.
