Randy Krummenacher had his elbows out to beat Lucas Mahias in a final corner fight for victory in Thailand to see the pair go level on points at the top of the World Supersport championship.
The Bardahl Evan Bros Yamaha stretched into the lead at the midway stage after finding a way past Jules Cluzel, who later crashed out with five laps to go battling in the front pack, as Mahias reeled in his Swiss rival to set up an intense final few laps.
Having sized up Krummenacher for a pass at the final corner a few laps before, Mahias went late on the brakes to dive up the inside of the Swiss which pushed him wide on the exit of the corner. In the sprint to the chequered flag the pair bashed fairings which appeared to unsettle the GRT Yamaha rider’s momentum to see Krummenacher take victory by 0.048s.
A similar last-corner clash unfolded directly behind the front two with Federico Caricasulo getting the better of Sandro Cortese with the top four spots dominated by Yamaha riders.
Local wildcard rider Thitipong Warokorn led the Kawasaki charge in fifth place after also being involved in the final corner scrap with Hikari Okubo, who tipped off and finished outside of the points, which promoted Anthony West up to sixth place.
Raffaele De Rosa narrowly lost out to West on the MV Agusta at the finish with Thailand wildcard Ratthapong Wilairot taking eighth place. CIA Landlord Insurance Honda’s Niki Tuuli and Profile Racing Triumph’s Luke Stapleford rounded out the top ten finishers.
