The lead changed hands several times between the Yamaha duo, before Gonzalez’s race winning overtake came with two laps to go.
Keeping close tabs on both men was Can Oncu in third, which was one of the few times this season where he’s been able to lead team-mate Philipp Oettl in a race situation.
After an intense battle between the two which included multiple positions swaps, Oncu got the better of the German with a move at the final chicane.
In close proximity with the Kawasaki pair was Niki Tuuli, however, the Finn was not unable to make a play for the podium and instead finished fifth.
Home favourite Jules Cluzel and pole sitter for race one Luca Bernardi both retired on the opening lap.
