JAS Motorsport has unveiled the 2006 version of its Honda Accord Euro R FIA Super 2000 - an evolution of the car which claimed one pole position and several Independent wins in the World Touring Car Championship last season.
The new Accord includes a number of upgrades compared to the model it replaces - including improvements to the already strong Honda engine to allow the car to take the fight to the works teams during the coming season.
The aerodynamics of the car have also been upgraded to suit the face lift of the Accord 2006 from which it derives, with a new front bumper, splitter and grille forming part of the search for maximum aerodynamic efficiency and improved cooling capacity.
The JAS-made Accords will compete in the Swedish Championship with Tomas Engstrom, in the Danish Championship with two cars entered by Hartmann Racing and will also participate to the Nurburbring 24-hours with the Team Honda Challenge, a non-professional team where all members are employees of the Honda R&D centre in Offenbach, Germany. JAS also hope to have a presence again in the WTCC paddock.
"We do hope to be in the WTCC again this year," team principal Alessandro Mariani said. "We have a number of options in progress with several drivers and most likely we will show up again in the Indipendent Trophy. We have proved last year that our car is extremely competitive, and I am sure that the latest developments have further increased the performance of our car.
"On top of that, we will continue to service our customers who will fight in their national championships. In Sweden, as well as in Denmark, Team Engstrom and Hartmann Racing have renewed their confidence in JAS by purchasing another Accord. They are all ingredients to do well."
