Changes made to Puebla layout.

The eleventh and twelfth rounds of the Puebla-Amozoc circuit will see a different layout used for 2006 following requests from the FIA Circuit Commission that suggested some areas of the circuit should be changed.

Indeed, while the first visit to the banked Mexican circuit last year was deemed a success, it did see a number of drivers failing to get to grips with the tight and twisty circuit.

Indeed, the attrition rate was high, while Jorg Muller and Adriano De Micheli failed to reach the start of the race when they destroyed their cars in practice.

As a result, changes have been made to the layout to open it out somewhat. The left-hand corner that followed the home straight and into the infield has been replaced by two right-handed corners leading to the South banking, which was not used last year.

The second half of the oval will therefore be used until the second straight, where a 90-degree left-hand corner leads into the still twisty infield. Changes have also been made to increase the run-off areas following criticisms from last year and criticisms levelled at the Curitiba circuit that saw two major accidents on the same bend in the last race.

The changes mean the lap distance is now 3.36km, compared with 3.13km from last year. Last year Fabrizio Giovanardi and Peter Terting became the inaugural winners of the race.
