Ford set to return, to race in 2013?
Ford looks set to re-join the FIA World Touring Car Championship later on this season, after a new owner purchased the three former Team Aon cars.
In January, Arena Motorsport, which ran the Ford programme last season, went into liquidation. It has been rumoured since then that the cars could in some way be seen in 2013 in the hands of a different team. Now Touring Car Times is reporting that the new unnamed owner of the three cars, which Tom Chilton and James Nash developed and raced in 2012, could be on the grid for the final few European events, or if not, then for the 'fly-away' rounds at the end of the season.
Before Arena Motorsport went bust, the cars were upgraded for 2013, and the new owner will be able to utilise these changes. A test programme in the UK is expected to start soon.
The cars were cleared for competition earlier in the year, a decision that was announced by the FIA Touring Car Commission in January.
