Following on from his maiden win at Mondello Park in Ireland the Ulsterman lapped in 48.429secs, already under the lap record set last year by Shane Byrne at 48.474secs. Second fastest was his team-mate and championship leader Ryuichi Kiyonari who was just 0.072secs off his time.

Young gun, Leon Camier on the Bike Animal Honda was in a promising third place heading off the charge from the Stobart pair of Shane Byrne and Tom Sykes who were in fourth and fifth respectively.

Leon Haslam was the first of the Airwaves Ducatis home following his first win of the year at Mondello Park running in sixth place. Cal Crutchlow on the blue Rizla Suzuki was in seventh with team-mate Chris Walker in tenth .

Gregorio Lavilla, on the second Airwaves machine who is second in the championship was in eighth place and Karl Harris on the Hydrex Honda was in ninth place.
