Zamparelli takes convincing win in damp conditions

Redline Racing's Dino Zamparelli has taken a dominant Porsche Carrera Cup GB victory during a greasy opening encounter at Snetterton.

Starting from second on the grid, Zamparelli immediately powered his way into the lead ahead of his main title rival Tio Ellinas and led every lap of the 14-lap race to take his third win of the 2018 season.

As Zamparelli romped away by almost three-seconds on the opening lap, Ellinas found himself dropping further down the pack and off the podium.

Indeed, it was the series newcomer Valentin Hasse-Clot who stole the headlines during the opening stages of the race after the French Porsche Carrera Cup driver stormed through the pack from seventh to third during the first lap.

At one point, the Motorbase Performance driver rose as high as second, but Hasse-Clot suffered heartbreak during the third lap after the 19-year old crashed out of second position.

Hasse-Clot's retirement ultimately elevated Dan Harper up into second position, where the JTR driver briefly began to apply pressure on Zamparelli by hunting the race leader.

By lap six, Harper managed to reduce the gap to Zamparelli to just over two-seconds. However, the race leader subsequently responded as the leading pack began to make their way through the lapped traffic.

Zamparelli eventually romped to a 7.1s winning margin over Harper, while Lewis Plato joined his JTR stablemate on the podium in third.

Ellinas finished almost ten-seconds down the road, ahead of Tom Wrigley and George Gamble in fifth and sixth.

Seb Perez took a narrow Pro-Am category victory by 0.2s ahead of Jamie Orton, while Dan Vaughn and Justin Sherwood took third and fourth in the class in ninth and tenth overall.

Peter Mangion managed to convert his Am category pole position into a class win ahead of his main rival Peter Kyle-Henney, but only just by 0.5s.
