Wrigley converts pole to win in race two

Tom Wrigley has won the final reverse grid Porsche Carrera Cup GB race in comfortable fashion after controlling the race ahead of JTR stablemate Lewis Plato at Snetterton.

Wrigley started the race from pole position and was forced to fend off the attentions of Plato throughout the opening couple of corners, but managed to gap his team mate from there on in to record his second win of the year.

While one JTR 911 GT3 Cup car managed to pull away in the distance, Plato wasn't able to enjoy the same luxury. As such, Plato came under severe pressure Dino Zamparelli, Dan Harper and Tio Ellinas.

Zamparelli increased the pressure on Plato from the fourth lap of the race after the Redline Racing driver moved up into third at the expense of Ellinas, who made a small but costly error ahead of his main title rival.

Despite having to fight off a three-car onslaught, Plato held his nerve and retained his position in second, while Zamparelli, in turn, had to fend off a resurgent Harper during the latter stages of the race.

With Plato being able to pull away from Zamparelli, that allowed the JTR driver to close to within a second of his team mate, but it wasn't enough to disrupt Wrigley's run to a second win of 2018.

Third position for Zamparelli, means the top-two in the championship are now level on points, with 76 apiece. As virtue of his race two win, Wrigley remains firmly in contention, just eight-points further back.

Ellinas later fell back to fifth behind the JTR machine of Harper, who in turn led George Gamble by a further seven-seconds across the line.

Carrera Cup GB newcomer Valentin Hasse-Clot signed off his opening weekend in the championship by making a firm statement of intent after charging through the pack from 23rd to seventh.

Jamie Orton took the Pro-Am category win with eighth overall, ahead of Seb Perez and Dan Vaughn, who completed the remainder of the top-ten in ninth and tenth.

As ever, the battle for Am class honours proved a tight affair, with Peter Mangion once again coming out on top ahead of Peter Kyle-Henney. Kyle-Henney very nearly got his rival after drawing alongside Mangion midway through the race, but utlimately had to yield before settling for second.
