Cammish wins race three thriller

Honda driver Dan Cammish prevailed against the changeable conditions to winning a thrilling reverse grid British Touring Car Championship race at Thruxton.

Cammish started the reverse grid race from second on the grid and dropped to third behind Team BMW's Tom Oliphant during the early stages but took his first win of the 2019 campaign despite having to contend with a torrential rain shower right at the climax of the race.

With the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra of Rob Collard leading over half of the race from pole position, Cammish made the race winning move on lap ten of the race following a small error from Collard at Church corner.

Up until that point, Collard had been inch perfect in protecting his lead against the Team Dynamics driver. However, Cammish was able to sweep around the outside of the race leading Vauxhall after Collard ran slightly wide at Church.

With the race winning move completed on the approach to the final chicane, Cammish was then able to control the gap at around a second as Collard regained his composure behind.

However, heavy rain towards the end threatened to turn the race upside down but Cammish was able to tip-toe his way through the challenging conditions to record his first win of 2019 ahead of Collard and Honda team mate Matt Neal in third.

Neal took advantage of the rain to make another late charge for the podium, at the expense of Mac Tools Racing's Morgan and the BMW 330i M Sport of Oliphant.

Morgan eventually consolidated his position in fourth ahead of two-time champion Jason Plato, who fought his way back up the order from 13th to fifth.

Plato was another to use the inclement conditions to his advantage after performing a superb double-pass on Ashley Sutton and Tom Ingram earlier in the race.

BTC Racing's Josh Cook cemented his position as third in the fourth' standings with solid points in sixth place, while Team BMW's Oliphant eventually fell down to seventh with Tom Ingram, Ashley Sutton and Andrew Jordan completing the remainder of the top-ten in eighth, ninth and tenth.
