Colapinto's qualifying is run after a wild slide out of Turn 12 both ruins his lap and scrubs off all that run to his final effort
The flag is out but there are many final laps to come in - Gasly, Stroll, Ocon, Bearman and Colapinto in the drop zone
All eyes on Stroll to see whether the inters are the way to go as the only driver out there on the green-walled rubber
He needs a lap too, he's into the drop zone
2mins to go and Sainz has now moved to the top from Verstappen, Russell, Lawson and Hadjar
Stroll, Ocon, Bearman, Hulkenberg and Colapinto in the drop zone
5mins to go and Hadjar and Lawson hold a Racing Bulls 1-2
Bearman, Ocon, Hulkenberg, Colapinto and Gasly fill the bottom five
Speaking of Stroll, is this going to be the day he out-qualifies Alonso for the first time in more than a year?
The Canadian has form in the wet, scoring his one and only pole position in similar conditions in Turkey back in 2020.
Meanwhile, he has taken a punt on intermediate tyres, the first to do so and with the track's length, it's not a strategy many (if any) have time to try
Everyone has a lap time safely on the board, with varying degrees of performance
Stroll quickest so far from Norris, Russell and Lawson - 8mins to go
Replays show Leclerc was lucky to avoid a bigger incident when he gets a tank-slapper out of Turn 12.
Not only did he just keep his car out of the wall, his Ferrari stalled as he recovered it leaving him hanging at low speed as rivals approached on a blind bend. Fortunately, he was able to get out of way just in time before CTRL+ALT+DELeting and getting on his way to make Q2
Norris is first out of the garage and to the end of the pit-lane to get this Q2 session underway - wets are still the order of the day
Bearman will get back out on track despite his brush with the barrier. The Haas driver was just a passenger as he missed his braking point and then slid - fairly slowly - head-on into the barrier
A brief respite for the drivers and teams as a quick barrier repair delays the start of Q2
For what it is worth, Russell was quickest from Verstappen but with the rain having stopped and lap times coming down in chunks in that session, it is a full reset for Q2
Big flop for Lewis Hamilton, a renowned master in the rain but leaving it too long to get up to speed and then being hampered by yellow flags in those crucial final moments.
16 - Albon
17- Antonelli
18- Bortoleto
19- Tsunoda
20- Hamilton
Bearman and Albon's dramas sprinkles the final moments with yellow flags that impedes other laps.
In the end, Albon's crash consigns him to an early exit both on the timesheets and physically.
He is joined by two of the expected major players in Antonelli and Hamilton, who are faced with a big task for tomorrow.
Bortoleto and Tsunoda also out
Alex Albon loses the back end of the Williams coming out of Turn 13 and bends the suspension on his Williams - he keeps going to get to the pits but that is one second-hand looking car
It was bound to happen.
Bearman locks up and is just a passenger as he toboggans into the wall at fairly low speed
Leclerc finally gets a quick lap on the board and it's a lap quick enough for top of the timesheets with one minute to go
Some deft car control from Verstappen as he balances the power on the exit of the final chicane - he's fastest of all now.
Colapinto, Hadjar, Leclerc, Bortoleto and Tsunoda in the bottom five.
2mins to go
You wouldn't think it looking at the conditions but lap times are coming down as drivers acclimatise to the conditions - this will come down to the final moments, no doubt
Sainz, Piastri, Bearman, Ocon and Stroll are the top five
Hadjar, Hulkenberg, Tsunoda, Bortoleto and Leclerc the bottom five
Some big names mired in the drop zone right now - Tsunoda, Piastri, Verstappen, Sainz and Leclerc, the latter of which is yet to set a time after having a time deleted.
He goes again but runs off and then gets plum in the way of other drivers as he recovers
8mins to go and Alonso sits top of the timesheets in the Aston from Gasly, Bearman, Stroll, Albon
Several drivers have been running wide as they struggle to find their braking marker
Some delicate tip-toeing going on as drivers feel their way into this session. Those high-speed kinks and dramatic heavy-braking zones in the dry have been replaced by twitchy turns and steady stops
These are very difficult conditions and not just because it is raining - they are lapping about 30secs off the dry weather pace.
Norris is complaining of aquaplaning as he runs off.
There is lots of standing water and the surface is littered with those slippery white lines, not to mention the lingering spray and low visibility caused by the bright lights around them
Yellow flags are popping up and disappearing as drivers go long in the braking zone, but live to fight another day
The drivers are largely out there on intermediate getting a feel for the conditions, but it is still raining, so teams are calling them back in to fit wets
