F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2022 | Full weekend schedule | How to watch
The F1 title battle has swayed heavily towards Max Verstappen and Red Bull following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Red Bull claimed their third 1-2 finish of the year with Verstappen winning for the fifth time.
With Red Bull taking glory in Baku, it was an abysmal day for their main rivals, Ferrari.
- The eye-opening record Russell equalled - and may be set to smash…
- Hamilton’s problems - safety issue or “bitching and complaining?”
- Have imploding Ferrari’s F1 title hopes gone up in smoke?
- DRIVER RATINGS: We gave one 10/10... but it wasn't for Max Verstappen...
Within the first 21 laps of the 51-lap grand prix, both Ferraris were forced to retire due to mechanical issues.
Sainz was out on Lap 9 due to a hydraulic-related issue, while an engine issue cost Leclerc a shot at the win 12 laps later.
It means Verstappen now has a 21-point lead over his teammate, but Red Bull’s gap over Ferrari is enormous, 80 points between the two teams.
F1 returns to Montreal for the first time since 2019 with porpoising set to dominate the headlines following Lewis Hamilton’s painful race in Baku.
Canada F1 Circuit - Key Info
The Canadian Grand Prix takes place at the iconic Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Named after the legendary Ferrari F1 driver, the circuit is a fan favourite with its long straights and tight chicanes often providing good racing.
The circuit is 4.361 km (2.710 miles) and consists of 14 corners.
Its most infamous corner is the ‘wall of champions’, appropriately named after Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve along with FIA GT champion Ricardo Zonta, who all crashed at the corner in the 1999 race.

What happened the last time F1 raced in Canada?
Hamilton won Canada’s most recent grand prix in 2019, albeit in controversial circumstances.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel won the race on track but was handed a harsh five-second time penalty after he was deemed to have rejoined the track in an unsafe manner.
After the race, Vettel memorably moved the #1 winners sign from in front of Hamilton’s Mercedes to his Ferrari.
