Max Verstappen crash: Silverstone included in top five incidents involving him
Monaco 2015
During his rookie F1 season, Verstappen was involved in a hefty shunt at the 2015 Monaco Grand Prix.
Running behind the Lotus of Romain Grosjean, Verstappen couldn’t overtake the Frenchman due to the tight and twisty nature of the Monte Carlo street circuit.
On the approach to Sainte Devote, Verstappen clipped the back of Grosjean, spearing into the barriers at Turn 1.
Verstappen was just 17 at the time but was impressing during his first year in the sport.
The Dutchman blamed Grosjean for the incident but Verstappen - who was driving for Toro Rosso at the time - was handed a five-second time penalty.
Azerbaijan 2018
Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo collided on the run to Turn 1 while battling for position at the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The duo were teammates at Red Bull as they battled for fifth-place behind Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen.
On Lap 40, Ricciardo attempted to overtake Verstappen into the first corner but he hit the back of his teammate.
The stewards awarded both drivers a reprimand for their role in the incident.
Although the aftermath is one of the reasons why Ricciardo left the team for Renault in 2019.
Azerbaijan 2021
Verstappen suffered a high-speed tyre blowout with just two laps to go at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Dutchman was on for a comfortable victory when his tyre failed.
The race didn’t prove detrimental in the title race after Lewis Hamilton fluffed the restart, taking to the escape road.
Britain 2021
Verstappen was crashed out of the lead by Hamilton on the opening lap of the 2021 British Grand Prix.
Hamilton got a run on Verstappen down to the high-speed right-hand corner of Copse.
The Mercedes driver attempted to overtake Verstappen on the inside but clipped his rear wheel, sending him into the barrier.
Verstappen’s crash at Silverstone was recorded at 51G.
Italy 2021
Hamilton and Verstappen collided again at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
After a slow pit stop, Verstappen rejoined well down the field.
Shortly after, Hamilton also had a slow stop, rejoining into the path of Verstappen.
Verstappen attempted to go around the outside of Hamilton into the first chicane on Monza but hit the kerb meaning his car was pushed upwards onto the top of Hamilton’s.
He was handed a three-place grid penalty for Russia as a result.
