Martin Brundle hits out at F1 teams for “glum and half-finished” liveries

Legendary F1 commentator Martin Brundle has suggested teams should be rewarded if they decide to run “dynamic” liveries.

F1 launch season is well underway with Aston Martin becoming the latest team to reveal their 2024 challenger.

Only McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull are still to reveal their new cars ahead of pre-season testing later this month.

One common theme so far in 2024 is teams opting to run their cars with exposed carbon (black) rather than fully paint their cars in the past.

Teams are concerned about being at the weight limit, particularly as the heavier the car, the slower it will go.

Brundle took to social media platform X to voice his opinion on Monday morning following the launch of the Aston Martin AMR24.

“The Aston looking classy,” Brundle posted on social media.

“Teams should be rewarded with a weight allowance for more complete liveries which will stand out on track for spectators and viewers.

“The field should look dynamic, it’s F1. Some of them look glum and half-finished.”

Fellow Sky Sports F1 pundit Karun Chandhok shared a similar view last week.

He made the point that the two quickest cars in 2023 - the Red Bull and Ferrari - were covered in paint.

"Those black carbon cars really look rubbish! The two fastest cars at the end of 2023 were painted blue & red,” Chandhok added.

"I obviously understand marginal gains etc., but it shows that if you get the design right, you can make it look good!"
