New Midland to be built at Silverstone.

Jordan/Midland team principal Colin Kolles has confirmed that the definitive 2006 Midland chassis will be built at the Jordan base in Silverstone, and not at Dallara as had initially been envisaged.

However, design work is still progressing in the wind tunnel in Italy, while the team is also conducting a parallel programme in the Jordan wind tunnel not far from Silverstone.

"Dallara is still on board," Kolles insisted, "They are working 18 hours a day in the wind tunnel. The only difference is that the so-called Dallara car - it was never a Dallara car, it was a Midland car - will be built at Jordan. The plans changed. Due to the acquisition of Jordan Grand Prix, we have facilities to build our own car.

"Basically, we are working in two wind tunnels at the same time. We have a wind tunnel in Brackley and a wind tunnel at Dallara, where we paid money and we have this capacity of wind tunnel hours, which we want to use - of course."

In the shorter term, an updated EJ15B will appear at the French GP on 3 July, although the car will feature the same chassis as has been used already this season, and which was inherited when Midland took over the Jordan operation in January.

"We had to look to be reliable in the first races," Kolles explained, "On the 23 January, when we came in, there was nothing in this company, it was basically a bankrupt company. There were four monocoques, and we had to build all the parts, and we had to pay Toyota and pay suppliers to bring new parts. There was no time to make the car very competitive, in my opinion. This is what we are trying now. We will have a new car in Magny-Cours."
