Ticktum makes Formula E switch with NIO 333 for season eight
Ticktum currently sits fourth in the F2 drivers’ standings with two rounds in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi to go.
With no F1 seats available and no official affiliation to a team, the British driver has been forced to look at opportunities elsewhere.
Ticktum was formerly a Red Bull junior and later, Williams’ academy.
Ticktum will join the NIO 333 team - who finished last in the teams’ championship last year.
Speaking of the news, Ticktum said: “I am very happy to be racing with the NIO 333 Formula E team. It’s going to be quite a big challenge as I have not had long to prepare for the test next week, and FE is complicated, but it’ll be very exciting.
“There are quite a few different tools you can use as a driver but it’s a totally different experience to F2, so I’m really looking forward to it, both mentally and physically.
“I’ve had a great few days with the team at Silverstone this week and hopefully we can try to make some progress next season and get further up the grid.”
Ahead of the new Formula E season, the team has undergone several senior management changes as it looks to return to the front of the grid.
Alex Hui has been promoted to team principal, while Russell O’Hagan has been appointed COO and deputy team principal, after spending several months as the team’s acting team principal.
“Let’s warmly welcome Daniel Ticktum as our newest member of the NIO 333 Formula E family,” said Vincent Wang, NIO’s chief executive officer.
“His race results that impress me the most are the two victories in the Macau Grand Prix, one of the most famous races in the world.
“Though he has shouldered some difficulties during his career, I believe that his experience will pave the way to success. He is a young, bright new star who will shine on the FE racetrack.”
Ticktum will get his first taste of Formula E action next week as testing in Valencia gets underway.
The British driver will be forced to miss the final day of the test due to his F2 commitments in Saudi Arabia.
