For the first Friday in some time, Maverick Viñales was speaking positively when assessing the day’s action as a “big change” with the electronics set-up of his Yamaha M1 pushed him toward the top of the MotoGP time sheets at the Circuit of the Americas.

It may have been Suzuki's Andrea Iannone that prevented Marc Marquez from a clean sweep of the Friday practice timesheets at the Austin MotoGP, but it was Maverick Vinales whose pace registered most on Marquez's radar.

Michael van der Mark says he’s eager to shake off the disappointment of missing out on the podium at Aragon last time out by targeting the top three at his home event at Assen with Pata Yamaha.

Valentino Rossi says he is confident and looking forward to getting back on track at the Americas MotoGP in Austin this weekend.

Austin 2017 was where it all started to go wrong for Maverick Vinales. After dominating winter testing and winning in his first two races for Yamaha, the Spaniard crashed out early in the COTA race.

The Pata Yamaha team remains frustrated at the existing performance gap between itself and the front-running Ducati and Kawasaki squads at the start of the 2018 World Superbike championship.

The last three MotoGP races have seen Johann Zarco lose out on victory by just 0.337s (Valencia), lead for 16 laps (Qatar) and finish runner-up by an even smaller margin of 0.251s (Argentina).
