Electric Production Car Series gets FIA approval
The Tesla-based Electric Production Car Series (EPCS) has announced it has received formal approval from the FIA ahead of its planned launch later this year.
Operated by Electric GT, the EPCS is aiming to kick off its new season later this year with a 20-strong grid of drivers all racing modified Tesla Model S P100Ds.
After the car passed the mandatory crash test last week, Electric GT announced on Thursday it had received FIA approval to go ahead with plans for the EPCS, a well as publishing its sporting regulations.

After the car passed the mandatory crash test last week, Electric GT announced on Thursday it had received FIA approval to go ahead with plans for the EPCS, a well as publishing its sporting regulations.
"This is such an exciting day for us as we confirm that the Electric Production Car Series has been officially sanctioned by the FIA. We respect the FIA and we are honoured to have their support ahead of our inaugural season," CEO Mark Gemmell said.
“We are also pleased to officially publish the sporting regulations for the Electric Production Car Series. We have put a lot of time into refining the regulations to allow for competitive and thrilling racing.
“With a three-heat qualifying system and two EPCS races, plus our eKarting and eSports rounds, fans will have a lot of racing action to get excited about."
The new series is aiming to stage its first race later this year, with a single-day format planned including a three-heat qualifying session and two races, including one taking place at dusk.
Plans are also being formulated for a 'Drift Off' competition between four drivers to score additional championship points at the end of each race event.
