Smith, who was broke his leg in a collision with the tractor grading the track at King's Lynn on March 29th has been back to hospital and had the second of four operations he is due to have on the leg.
This operation was to remove two screws inserted in his ankle, then hopefully Smith will go back to see the surgeon in 6 weeks time to see how things are progressing.
The aim with removing the screws is that the bone will start pushing together and then heal completely. Jamie is now getting around without the aid of crutches, but as he explained, he has written off a return to the saddle before the end of the season.
"My season is finished now, but I am getting focused for next year and want to make up on missing out on 2006. As soon as my surgeon gives me the green light, I'll be back building up my fitness ready for tapes up in 2007."
Fry, who also broke his leg, this time in a racing incident in the Rebels home meeting with Berwick on 2nd June, is making slow, but steady progress. The leg is still inflamed, but other than that he is not getting any pain. Paul is due to return to hospital on Wednesday (16th) and this will largely determine whether or not 'Fryer' will be able to make a competitive return to the saddle before the end of the season.
