Rebels turn to cup action.
The Somerset 'Sharp' Rebels take a break from Premier League action this weekend with home and away matches against the Glasgow Tigers in the first round of the Premier League Knock Out Cup.
Having come so close to lifting the trophy last year, only losing out to King's Lynn in the final, the Rebels will, no doubt, be looking to go one better this year and bring the Cup back to Somerset
It will not be easy though for the Rebels this weekend as Glasgow have made an excellent start to the season, and are in pole position to qualify through from their group to the semi-final stage of the Premier Trophy competition.
The team is built around the solid foundation that is Shane Parker and George Stancl, the partnership that lifted the Premier League Pairs Championship for Glasgow back in 2005, beating Somerset the Somerset duo of Magnus Zetterstrom and Glenn Cunningham in the final!
The Glasgow top pairing have been receiving excellent back up this year from their middle order, of Lee Dicken, Trent Leverington and Robert Ksiezak, and with Dicken and Leverington having shown a liking for the Oak Tree Arena in the past, how the Somerset middle order fare against their Scottish counterparts could have a big bearing on how big a lead the Rebels take back with them to Glasgow's Ashfield Stadium on the following Sunday (6th)
Such has been the form of the Tiger's middle three this year that Lee Smethills, a rider of heat leader capabilities, finds himself at reserve, together with the only Scot in the Tigers line up, David McAllen.
Following the main meeting, there is a welcome return to the Oak Tree Arena to the USA 'Dream Team' who captured everyone's imagination with an excellent display against the Somerset Giant following Somerset's match with Mildenhall.
Once again the American quartet will take on a Giants team, this time in a 4 rider, 6 heat challenge match.
