Oakes stays at Coventry.

Coventry Buildbase Bees have been boosted by the news that co-team manager Peter Oakes is set to continue in his position with the club.

Peterborough-based Oakes had been unable to definitely commit himself to 2007 when giving media interviews at the end of last season, partly due to his workload which also includes responsibility for British youth development in the sport and a number of journalistic positions.

However, he has now stated that he is keen to continue at Coventry and add further silverware after a memorable two seasons of success at Brandon.

Since joining the Bees in May 2004 to work alongside co-promoter Colin Pratt, Bees have won the major honours of the Elite League title (2005) and Knockout Cup (2006) as well as the Elite Shield (2006) and Midland Trophy
(2005 and 2006) and also in 2006 reached the Elite League play-offs and were runners-up in the Craven Shield.

Oakes said: "I did have a think about things after last season had finished as I have a hectic schedule and want to be fully committed to whatever I am involved in.

"But I enjoy the team management at Coventry, [owner] Avtar Sandhu and Colin are great to work for and we also have a strong team of riders who work well together and have plenty of improvement in them.

"The set-up at the club is right, and I should also give some credit to my grandson Josh who travels to most of the matches with me and has been busily persuading me to stay on since the end of last season!

"I suppose after the success of the past two years, what we have to look for now is to go for the League and Cup double!"

Bees have yet to confirm any riders for the 2007 campaign, but are not expected to make major changes to last year's line-up. The team-building regulations do allow them to declare an unchanged starting seven should they decide to.
