Dominique Aegerter wins the 2021 World Supersport title

Dominique Aegerter has won the 2021 World Supersport championship after title rival Steven Odendaal suffered two crashes.

As the lights went out, Manuel Gonzalez was immediately passed off the line by Can Oncu for third, before losing the front of his Yamaha R6 on corner entry. 

The Spaniard’s fall resulted in him collecting Odendaal, while Aegerter was nearly brought down too. 

On lap two Andres Gonzales crashed at turn five, while the weekend’s other wildcard rider Matias Petratti had to start from pit lane after stopping his bike on-track and causing a red flag during morning warm-up. 

The first few laps were identical to race one as pole sitter Jules Cluzel led from Oncu. But unlike race one, Oncu managed to stay with the French rider for more than a handful of laps, albeit a move for the lead never came. 

Odendaal’s day went from bad to worse as he suffered a second crash - this one his own doing at turn 15.

Cluzel continued to demonstrate his incredible pace by setting a new lap record with four laps remaining, before clinching his fourth consecutive win of 2021.
