Dominique Aegerter claimed the final World Supersport pole position of 2021 after getting the better of Spanish rider Manuel Gonzalez.

Raffaele De Rosa, who finished third overall on day-one at Mandalika, was the first rider to set lap time of note, however, 2021 world champion Dominique Aegerter and fellow Kawasaki rider Can Oncu managed to better the Italian on their second efforts.

Aegerter’s time was enough to eclipse yesterday’s lap record which was set by Randy Krummenacher.

Moto2-bound Manuel Gonzalez then went second quickest behind Aegerter, while former Moto2 rider Niki Tuuli put his MV Agusta on the provisional front row with 11 minutes remaining.

Although Aegerter wasn’t able to improve on his new Mandalika lap record over his next three laps, the Ten Kate Yamaha rider was still setting lap times quicker than Gonzalez’s best.

While most of the grid returned to pit lane ahead of their second and final run, Jules Cluzel remained on-track and went seventh.

After closing in on Aegerter’s pole time as the lap developed, 2019 series winner Krummenacher went ahead of his fellow countryman thanks to a brilliant final sector.

Krummenacher looked set to improve on his next lap, however, he was unable to do so in sector four as Aegerter, Federico Caricasulo, Gonzalez and De Rosa all went quicker.

Aegerter held on for pole, while Gonzalez and Caricasulo round out the front row for today’s race one.
