Morgan takes dominant race three victory

Mac Tools Racing's Adam Morgan has taken a dominant race three victory to emerge from the Thruxton weekend with the British Touring Car Championship points lead.

Having started the reverse grid race from pole position, the Mercedes A-Class driver led every lap on his way to securing a second BTCC win of the year ahead of WIX Racing's Jack Goff in second.

Morgan successfully kept the Vauxhall Astra of Senna Proctor at arm's length for the majority of the race, before Proctor later fell behind the charging Honda Civic Type-R of Goff during the closing stages of the race.

Proctor's brief resistance of second position allowed Morgan to stretch his advantage to almost three-seconds, which left Goff too much of a gap to close with just under two-laps to go.

Morgan eventually crossed the line 2.4s ahead of Goff, while Proctor took another impressive podium finish in third.

Motorbase Performance's Sam Tordoff took fourth for the third time in as many races after holding off Team BMW's Colin Turkington in fifth.

Turkington, incidentally, has now moved up to fifth in the points standings after enjoying by far his best weekend of the year with two second places during the opening two races.

Just 2.7s covered Tordoff in fourth to Honda's Matt Neal in seventh, with Power Maxed TAG Racing's Josh Cook finishing just Turkington's BMW in sixth position. Cook comes away from Thruxton just a single point behind championship leader Adam Morgan.

Race one winner Matt Neal capped off his strongest meeting of the season so far with eighth, ahead of BTC Norlin Racing's Chris Smiley and Team BMW's Rob Collard in ninth and tenth.
