Sutton doubles up with second win for Subaru

Subaru driver Ashley Sutton has maintained his authority at Croft after taking his second consecutive British Touring Car Championship victory of the day in race two.

The reigning champion lost the lead at the start of the race from pole position, but eventually recovered to win the second race by a handsome 4.4s margin ahead of Speedworks Motorsport's Tom Ingram.

Remarkably, it was Ingram who led the charge into turn one from third place after the Toyota Avensis jumped both of the RWD Subarus at the start of the race.

In what proved to be a controversial start, Jason Plato picked up a drive-through penalty from second position after his Subaru Levorg creeped forward before the lights went out. The 96-time race winner would fight back to finish in 14th.

Back at the front, Sutton - despite running the full 75 kilos of success ballast - wasted no time in reasserting his position at the front as the Subaru driver scythed back past Ingram at the final corner during the second lap of the race.

While, Ingram managed to remain around 1.0s behind the race leader at the halfway point of the race, Sutton appeared to kick up a gear and eventually extended his advantage at will.

Sutton cruised across the line 4.4s ahead of Ingram, who retained second ahead of Team BMW's Colin Turkington.

Turkington spent the vast majority of the race pinned directly behind the Toyota Avensis, but Ingram managed to hold his line lap-after-lap despite a torrent of pressure from the championship leader.

Motorbase Performance's Sam Tordoff followed behind for yet another fourth place finish ahead of BMW Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan in fifth.

Tom Chilton completed an impressive charge up the order from 15th to finish the second race in sixth, with Matt Neal and Senna Proctor following behind in seventh and eighth.

Dan Lloyd was ninth for BTC Norlin Racing and will start race three from pole position after his number chosen in the reverse grid draw.

Rory Butcher completed the top-ten order in tenth after keeping factory Honda driver Dan Cammish at bay.
