Niki Lauda's proposed run in Jaguar's grand prix car will not be the only time the family name takes to the track in the next few weeks, as the Austrian's son steps onto the lower rungs of the racing ladder.

Matthias Lauda is slated to follow in his father's famous footsteps when he tries a Formula Three car under the watchful eye of one of Spain's leading teams, prior to embarking on a full season in the Iberian series in 2002.

Matthias Lauda is slated to follow in his father's famous footsteps when he tries a Formula Three car under the watchful eye of one of Spain's leading teams, prior to embarking on a full season in the Iberian series in 2002.

Lauda Jr has, according to the German press, been living in Barcelona for the past few years, and is keen to establish himself as a serious contender for the top flight by 2005. Although he acknowledges that emulating his triple championship winning father, Matthias is determined to succeed on his own merits.

The Spanish F3 series is one of the newest in Europe, but is proving to be both well populated and closely contested.
