The British Grand Prix star has been a winner with both Long Eaton and the Comets in previous years, and knows that he stands a good chance of notching up the magical fifth crown this weekend.

But the Cumbrian crowd favourite also knows that he will face tough competition fir the prize, including Sheffield's Sean Wilson, who is also a popular visitor to Derwent Park.

"Workington is a good track and I know Ian Thomas will put on a good show because that's what he does," Wilson said, "Sure, the home track advantage will help 'Stoney' and Peter Karlsson a little, but I'm capable of beating them around Derwent Park."

"It's the best field which has ever appeared at Workington," event promoter Ian Thomas said, "Even with Hull, Robbie Kessler comes in for Paul Thorp and that doesn't weaken them too much. We've got everything in place, the line-up, the show and all I ask now is that we have some reasonable weather!"

The line-up is as follows:

Group A:

Sheffield: Sean Wilson and Simon SteadNewport: Craig Watson and Frank SmartReading: Dave Mullett and Phil MorrisEdinburgh: Frede Schott and Peter CarrWorkington: Carl Stonehewer and Peter Karlsson
