Mason off sick bed but Boxall a doubt.

Rye House skipper David Mason dragged himself from his sickbed on Saturday to record an excellent paid 11 score against Edinburgh at Hoddesdon. But Richard Boxall is an injury doubt after a second half crash.

Maso had been laid low from a kidney infection from which he is still recovering, but answered the call to ride for a Rye House team which had already lost Scott Swain to a stomach bug.

Promoter Len Silver said: "David was very tired after Saturday but his condition is improving. When you consider he wasn't 100% fit, to get paid 11 points was terrific."We expect Scott Swain to be back in the team which will face Reading on Sunday and we have applied to the Management Committee to have him declared eligible again."

The Rockets face the Reading Racers on Sunday afternoon at 3pm in a Premier League clash which is a change from their usual Saturday night racing. Silver added: "I think Reading are a serious threat for although we beat them by 17-points at home in the Premier Trophy there top man Phil Morris is in a rich vein of form at the moment. The Racers have named Jason Bunyan in their lineup which surprised me immensely because I thought he had a broken shoulder but we will see what we will see."

Rye House Raiders latest starlet Steve Boxall is a serious doubt for Monday's Conference League clash with the Newport Mavericks. Boxall was injured after a nasty fall while challenging James Cockle for the lead in a second half race on Saturday night.

The 15-year-old was back on his feet and walking back to the pits after treatment but later visited his local hospital suffering from severe bruising and damaged ligaments.

Meanwhile there was surprise on the Hoddesdon terraces that this Monday's clash with Mavericks is to be the league clash and not the anticipated Knockout Cup meeting between the two sides.

Raiders Promoter Len Silver said: "We are having great difficulty arranging a date with Newport for the Knockout Cup meeting. We wanted it to be this Monday but we could not get agreement from south Wales on this."

Back in 1999 when Rye House first relaunched in the British Speedway there was a clash between the then Hoddesdon promotion and the Newport promotion about the staging of a separate league and cup fixture rather than a one meeting takes all affair.

It may be that the latest debate over dates is a case of getting one's own back! The Raiders take on the Mavericks in Conference League action on Monday July 15 at 7.30pm.
